RE: Second Battery Location

I just made a quick bracket/frame out of some angle and flat steal I had laying around.
Used my floor jack to put it all in place and bolt it up. Makes it easy to add water and stuff to.

RE: Second Battery Location

Got mine (two batteries) mounted to the truck frame right behind the cab on the drivers side.

I'm glad to see it's everyone else also.
I thought I was just getting singled out because I let my "Presidents Club" expire at Camping World.

RE: Is a 40 ft. fifth wheel to long for most campgrounds?

My 5er is 40' (see sig) and I'm getting rid of it because it's a major PIA unless you want to camp in "big rig" friendly campgrounds. Those are pretty much parking lots designed for people with golf carts and little dogs. Nothing wrong with that, just not my thing. I'm looking for a 29 with a bedroom slide.
And I towed my 5er with a 3/4 truck with a cummins once. You can do it, but why?
You need more truck or less camper.

RE: Exteme TC'ing in a dually?

I think you would be throwin money away and messing up a good truck by lifting and trying to mod your dually. I love my dually for towing, hauling, and trucking the TC around, but when it gets off road, it's a good thing I have a good winch. And it's just not manuverable enough for trails, the truck just dont turn!
I had a 2001 3/4 ton Dodge with a Cummins and that truck would go most anywhere.
Notice that Earth Roamers are SRW.

RE: jacks not high enough

Use 6x6 and 2x6 blocks.
Or dig a pit under the camper to back the truck into.

RE: Help on leveling/setup of trailer. New owner to trailers...

I would recomend treated lumber cut into blocks. 6x6, 4x6, and 2x6 are what I use.
I carry some 8 foot 2x10's in my truck bed for under the wheels. I have three axels, if you have two you can get away with shorter.
I would not use cinder blocks. They will break up.

RE: Visit to Cleveland Ohio ock & Roll Hall of Fame

Wow, this is a first! Cant ever say I heard someone say they want to visit Cleveland for any reason.
I've been to the Rock Hall a few times, it's ok.
You are going to need to stay about 30 min out of town. Geneva on the Lake is a good place to make camp. Like posted above it's "Classic" over there. There are a couple winery's that are fun to visit if you like wine.
There are a few campgrounds south east of Cleveland around Aurora, but thats a little farther away.
You should be ok parking down there. There is a parking lot rite by the lake, like $10.00 a day to park there. Just make sure you lock everything up. If you leave anything outside your camper, chained or not, it more than likely wont be there for very long.
Welcome To Cleveland!

RE: size of 5er and RV parks

I have a 36' 5er witch is really 40' when ya measure it.
I found that as long as the road is wide enough for the truck to swing around I can get it in most any campground. They advertise spots for big rigs, but they dont have roads to manuver through the campground, especially if the place is crowded. If they say they can handle a 35 footer, I can usually find a spot. Be aware of trees hanging over the road and close to corners!

RE: Looked at a 5er!!!!!

I think everyone should have a TC and a 5er. Use that truck!
31 is a nice size, wish mine was a bit shorter, closer to 31 or 33. Bed room slides are nice.
That's gotta be the only toy you dont have, you better go for it!

RE: Bear attacks Camper!

I know many won't agree with me, but bears like that should be put down.
Thats rite, Kill'm all! That way we dont have to worry about bears at all while in the woods!
If you want to see animals go to the zoo, thats why we have them.
Damn bears and animals are just a nuisance in the woods when we people want to go camp.
The same needs to happen with those damn sharks in the oceans!
It's good to be on top of the food chain.

RE: 3/4 ton vs. 1 ton questions.

I have a dually (2006) and a SRW2500 (2001) both with a CTD.
The dually tow's and hauls better hands down. Way better!
But it should.
The SRW is definatly better off road, but for the stability the dually gives, I deal with it.
The one thing I have noticed between the one ton and 3/4 ton trucks is the turning radius.
It takes a LOT more room to get that one ton truck turned around than a 3/4 ton truck.
That Furd F450 turns sharper than any other one ton truck out there (pick up truck, I know the HD Volvo's turn sharper) But I just cant afford the price.

RE: New camper - hate the generator.

Toy Hauler,
I'm in the same boat as you. My propane onan in my Lance 915 sounds like a damn Troy Built genny from Lowes! And the thing will empty your propane tanks real quick. You can do all the oil changes, rubber mounting, muffler re-routing, and wear ear plugs and it will still be WAY louder than the 2000i (or similar), viberating, and be using all that propane. I have been using my 200i all year now and am very happy with the set up. It's a bit less conviniant to start up the honda verses pushing the button for the onan, but I think it's well worth it. I'm going to be tearing out the onan soon to use the space.
Good luck

RE: Need Advice - from a Wanabe TC owner

All good advice!
The only thing I would say is to stick with an 8 footer.
If you go with a 9 footer like my 915 be ready to either spend some bucks on a hitch and extension or be building some sort of hitch. Either way it's gonna cost you for the hitch.
I've been in a few 835's, they are pretty nice.

RE: Portable hot tub while truck camping?

I do the hot tub thing with my toy hauler.
Although the toy hauler hasnt been outta the stable much this year....
I have a softub 220. I roll it into the garage with the bikes/toys, and filler up when I get there.
Sometimes I just set it up in the garage area when I unload, sometimes outside.
I have never had a problem with a campground, but then again I dont send up flares and put up signs that I'm filling up my hot tub either. You dont need no 50 amp service as it is a 110 unit. I can run the tub, ac, and whatever else just fine without 50 amp. I have also run it with my Honda 220i, takes about 8 hours to warm up, then it pretty much stays warm if the lid is on and it aint 10 degrees out.
I'm gonna try it boon dockin now that I have a 16 foot enclosed trailer set up.

RE: I hate my air bags and I KNEW better!!

I'm with you DJ!
The only things the airbags did to my rig is make it sway like a ship on rough seas!
Had to take a dramamine to drive the damn thing!
The only thing they do is level the truck. they seem to take all the suspension out of it.
I'm looking into those supper springs myself.

RE: To all 5ver drivers, a ? 4 U.

I have a SRW Dodge (2001) and a DRW Dodge (2006) and there is really no comparison in towing.
The dually is the hands down winner. Extremely stable and that whole flat tire thing as mentioned in a previous post is a big bonus. I had a right rear go flat on me (picked up a giant screw) and sure was glad I had the dually.
Both my trucks have Cummins turbo diesels in them. A friend of mine has a 2005 dually with the v-10 gasser in it and there is no comparison in tourqe to the diesel motors.
Good luck with your decision!

RE: anyone else getting a scooter for local transport?

I have a buddy 125 made by the original scooter company.
They are about $2,000.00 new. Can go about 55 or 60 with a 200 pounder on it, scoots around town great. Pick up from a light is good, keeps up with traffic.
Get's close to 100 miles on a gallon of gas. You can fit a good amount of groceries or beverages under the seat.
Don't forget, in most states if it can go 30 mph, you need a motorcycle license/endorcement and follow helmet laws. And also don't forget, even though it may be a cute little scooter, it hurts just as much to crash it as a motorcycle.
Don't know about the whole cost justification, but the thing is a hell of a lot of fun to ride, and a lot easier to park than my Dually!
